1 very large Worthington pump raised water from the river to a height of 160' and at a distance of over 3,500'.
Another pump was available for back-up.
The water was then pumped into a 40-45,000 gallon wooden water tank above the engine room and then into a 3,000,000 gallon reservoir.
Water for domestic purposes was delivered.
Fire hydrants were located at "almost every corner".
According to the 1900 Sanborn map, there were 3 hose carts which held about 2,000' of 2" hose.
