Frederic Anton Eilers
Anton was born 14 January 1839 in Laufenselten, Nassau, Germany. Soon after the completion of his studies, he came to the United States and from 1869-1876 he held the office of deputy U.S. commissioner of mining statistics. He built and managed smelting works for lead and silver in Utah and Colorado and was considered one of the foremost experts in the United States in his branch of metallurgy. He was instrumental in changing the scope of smelting in the western United States. He never patented any of his numerous inventions.
